Are You Expecting?

Congratulations! Having a baby is an exciting and rewarding experience. Children's Medical Group shares in your joy! If you're a new parent interested in joining us, we encourage you to schedule a complimentary prenatal visit. This gives you a chance to visit our office, learn more about our practice and ask important questions about your baby's birth. Appointments are available Monday through Friday. In the meantime, below are quick facts about us that most new parents want to know right away. For more information about Children's Medical Group—and what makes us unique—please visit our New Patients section.

Hospital Affiliation

Our practice is affiliated with Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. If you choose us as your provider, simply tell your obstetrician as well as the hospital staff when you arrive to give birth. The hospital will notify our office once your baby is born and one of our pediatricians will be in to see you and your baby during hospital rounds, which are performed each morning. We also have a relationship with the Hospital of Saint Raphael. If you deliver there, your baby will be seen by their pediatric staff, who will contact our office concerning any issues. Babies born at other hospitals are welcome to come to our office after birth.

Baby's First Check-up

After coming home from the hospital, your baby should see a provider within the next one to two days. At your first visit, we will re-examine your baby and check their weight to help assure that the transition home has been successful and that your baby is feeding effectively. We will also answer any questions you may have.

Well-Visits for the First Year

Following the first visit described above, Children's Medical Group schedules routine checkups or "well-visits" according to the schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics: at two weeks, one month, two months, four months, six months, nine months, and 12 months of age.
